What is Sedation Dentistry? (return to top of page)
Sedation Dentistry is called Oral Conscious Sedation because you will not be under general anesthesia. You will simply spend the day under the effect of a drug that causes you to lose your anxiety and totally relax.
Dr. Howard Hoffman is the Miami area’s original sedation dentist. He has extensive training and decades of experience with oral conscious sedation dentistry. In his practice, he uses sedation techniques for two reasons:
- Overcoming anxiety associated with a visit to the dentist.
- More extensive treatment in less time. Sedation allows us to accomplish more in one appointment and complete your beautiful smile in a shorter time frame. Cosmetic Makeovers with porcelain veneers, restorations (crowns, caps, fillings) or implants can be accomplished easily and comfortably during Sedation. You can take a little pill just before you come to our office and it will help make your fears evaporate into thin air. As an added bonus, many of our patients actually forget their entire experience in our office. Of course, everyone’s experience is different. We strive to make your Sedation experience as comfortable for you as possible.
What is Sleep Apnea? (return to top of page)
The most common type of sleep apnea is obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). During sleep, enough air cannot flow into your lungs through your mouth and nose even though you try to breathe. When this happens, the amount of oxygen in your blood may drop. Normal breaths then start again with a loud snort or choking sound. People with sleep apnea move out of deep sleep and into light sleep several times during the night, resulting in poor sleep quality.
What is TMJ? (return to top of page)
