TMJ Disorder
When teeth are out of alignment, facial muscles may go into spasms. These spasms create misalignment of the temporomandibular or jaw joints. This is known a TMJ disorder. Some of the symptoms of TMJ include headaches, neck pain, back pain and ear aches.
Bruxism
Bruxism, or teeth grinding and teeth clenching can also contribute to TMJ disorder. Though the cause if bruxism is unknown, it is believed that stress is a factor. It is also believed that it is an unconscious way to compensate for an incorrect bite by grinding or clenching teeth to create a better bite.
